2003 Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS)
The 2003 youth survey was similar to the 2001 survey. In order to
reduce the number of questions and allow for choice, the 2003 survey was
offered in two versions. The family version included 40 questions about the
family and the other version included only one question about the family
("2003 Pennsylvania Youth Survey [PAYS]," n.d.). Schools were given
the option of which version would be administered to their students. For the
first time, the survey also included questions that asked students about feelings—sadness,
hopelessness, and worthlessness—that can be symptoms of depression; however,
the results for these questions were not included in the 2003 report (PCCD,
2006, p. 11).
