The academic achievement award is presented to the deputy with the highest academic average, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Sheriffs' Association.
Law - Michael Lockhart, Philadelphia Office of the Sheriff
The law award is presented to the deputy with the highest average scores for civil and criminal law, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Firearms - Peter Steffy, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office
The firearms award is presented to the deputy with the highest firearms range qualification, sponsored by the Deputy Sheriffs' Education and Training Board.
Michael VanKuren Memorial Award - Adam Wojy, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
(Formerly the Defensive Tactics Award)
This memorial award is presented to the deputy with the highest score and profiency level in defensive tactics. Michael VanKuren was a Deputy Sheriff with the Bradford County Sheriff's Office, who was killed in the line of duty on March 31, 2004. Deputy VanKuren was also a Defensive Tactics Instructor with the Deputy Sheriffs' Training Academy.
